While the initial investigations on most criminal offenses are made by the Patrol Officers, follow up and in depth investigations fall to the Departments Investigations team. These duties are shared by Detective Sergeant Richard Penn and the Chief.

The investigator is also responsible for conducting interviews with crime victims and suspects, processing physical evidence, handling all property, and preparing and presenting cases to the prosecuting attorneys offices. The investigator works closely with other local, state, and federal agencies in resolving criminal cases and locating wanted fugitives.

For more information on case loads and such see the page on Department Information and Statistics

Identity Theft, Fraud, and Computer Related Crimes are becoming more prevalent in our community just as they are across the country. The Department tries to stay abreast of the changing technologies and train it's personnel to address these issues. The Chief is the primary Cyber Crimes investigator for the Department and the Department also relies on other agencies for forensic analysis on computers involved in crimes.

At the left are links to pages the Department has developed to assist our citizens in recognizing and dealing with these types of offenses.
